VELA

Role: UX/UI Designer

VELA is a sailing tool that helps to create sailing trips by the combined use of a tablet and Recon Jet Glasses. Plan your experience on a tablet synced with your ReconJet glasses and enjoy it on the water.

BACKGROUND

VELA started as a side project at 5k. I was tasked to produce a feasible sailing idea that could provide an omnichannel experience with the use of ReconJet glasses, A smart new wearable that enables users to view live metrics directly with their eye.

APPROACH

I dedicated a few days to research and study the core functionalities of the ReconJet glasses. Knowing all the aspects of this device was the first challenge to face in order to deliver the best sailing experience. Once I formed an ideal picture, I started sketching high level flows and journeys to see how a user could have a unified experience while using synchronised devices.

VISUALS

In order to show our idea to ReconJet and potential investors, we created a video (available here www.go-vela.com) that talks about the concept and different features available in the Application giving sailors useful tools to have the best experience on water.

Creating a trip is really simple. Explore the map and check the nautical information to help you plan your next adventure.

By interacting with the map and selecting the start and finish point, the app will create automatically the ideal route for you to sail. Use the timeline to see your position against the map and check all the weather conditions before saving your trip.

After syncing the trip with ReconJet glasses, just set sail, and enjoy the adventure. Thanks to the advanced HUD, sailors can be updated with weather conditions changes and useful metrics during navigation. This unique experience on the water is also enhanced by pictures and videos that can be taken by interacting with the LED on the goggles and stored back onto the device.
